  Purpose

The Rocky Mountain Bead Society (RMBS) was formed to: Advance the study of and education about beads;
Encourage and promote public appreciation for beads and the art of beading;
Disseminate information about beads and beading;
Develop and administer programs concerning beads and beading;
Establish and maintain an RMBS book collection and library; and
Publish and preserve writings about the history of beads and beading.

  History

The Rocky Mountain Bead Society (RMBS) was founded in 1992 by Past President Leslie Sartor to help people interested in bead study and beading techniques find a way to share knowledge and explore new dimensions. Twenty-five people came to the first meeting. Today, we have nearly 200 members and, like our membership, or society continues to grow. We provide exciting, informative, and relevant programs and workshops with locally and nationally recognized people in their fields. We sponsor bead bazaars and member shows, and promote bead education and scholarship. We also have a member bookstore and library. Society members frequently bring beads and their latest creations to share and sell. Our Society has bead lovers of all descriptions. Some of us make beaded jewelry and some of us collect ancient beads. Some of us melt glass and some of us knead and bake polymer clay (PC) or precious metal clay (PMC). Some of us are fine jewelers and some of us are weavers or create wearable art from seed beads. Some of us are authors and some of us are wire wrappers. Some of us participate in community and world projects, such as the Ethiopian HOPE Bracelet Project. But whatever we do, we have fun!

  Events, Classes, and Workshops

The RMBS sponsors Programs and Classes and Workshops by local and visiting artists and collectors We also sponsor an annual nationally recognized Bead Bazaar.

  Leadership

Just in case you've been wondering who does all the work required to keep our organization working so wonderfuly, why it's everyone in the RMBS, led by a large group of Officers and Committees, all volunteers, of course! Speaking of Officers, read the message of our President!

  Membership in the Society

Membership in the RMBS is for the calendar year from January through December. Membership Fees are reasonable and two-tiered for individuals or families who may join the Society by sending in a completed Membership Form with the applicable fees. One of the welcomed Benefits of Membership in the Society is the RMBS Newsletter, which is mailed to each member each quarter. This official RMBS publication features show updates; news of authors and expert lectures; classified ads; display ads; interviews with researchers, artists, and collectors; museum programs, sources for buying beads and supplies, and much more. The RMBS has entertaining and helpful Programs during its monthly meetings. Our members often participate in Study Groups in various locations up and down the Colorado Front Range and attend many Other Beady Events throughout the West. It is informative to take a look at some of our Past Events to get an idea of what kinds of things we do. Local participating Shops often offer Society members group discounts of up to 10% and members enjoy a 20% discount at the RMBS book table on meeting nights.

  Newsletter

The Rocky Mountain Bead Society publishes a newsletter every quarter that is packed with news, informative articles, and ads from great suppliers. It is made available to all our members as well as those inquiring about membership in RMBS. The newsletter is also exchanged with several other "sister" societies.
