[ Free-Form Gourd Stitch Vessels ]

Class Description: Students will use a wide variety of seed beads and other beads to weave Freeform vessels in Gourd Stitch. Each vessel begins in the center with the Flat Circular Gourd Stitch and works into Tubular Gourd Stitch. Each vessel is unique and fun to create.
Student Supplied Supplies:
  • Seed Beads: Multiple colors and textures of size 8 and size 6 (you can throw size 11's in there too)
  • Miscellaneous beads of all kinds, including 4mm hex, cube, triangle, flowers, leaves, pearls, etc.
  • Needles of choice
  • Thread of choice
  • Scissors
  • Bead tray or work surface of choice
  • Desk lamp
  • Chair cushion
  • Your creativity
Note: Students need working experience in Peyote Stitch, either flat or tubular. Because the project is free-form, students will be shown how to start flat, circular Peyote Stitch and how to work it upwards. Each piece will be unique and one of a kind! If you want to keep in one particular color range, that's fine too. What you create will depend upon the beads you bring to work with, supplemented with instructor's beads. Instructor will bring supplies students can purchase in class to add to their project.

[ Free-Form Gourd Stitch Vessels ]

Class Description: An element from her "Summer Passion Necklace" and "Seaforms," this project is formed in two layers using two sizes of seed beads worked in Herringbone Stitch. Multiple increases in multiple colors create its circular shape and a lampglass bead nestles into the center.
Student Supplied Supplies:
  • Size 11/o seed beads: up to 30 colors, approx. 2gr. each
  • Size 8 Japanese seed beads: 9-10 colors, approx. 4gr. each
  • 1 size 8mm (approx.) lamp-worked bead
  • 2 small pressed glass flowers
  • For embellished wrist corsage: multiple sizes & colors of pressed glass flowers
  • Silamide thread
  • Size 12 Sharps needles (or short Beading)
  • Small sharp scissors
  • Beeswax
  • Work surface of choice (piece of leather works well)
  • Desk lamp & magnification, if needed
  • Chair cushion (optional)
  • Good sense of humor
Note: As you pick out your bead colors, think about the passionate colors of summer: many shades of green, purples, pinks, yellows, gold, blues. You only need a small amount of each color but I recommend at least 30 colors of size 11! Choose a variety of finishes and types, such as transparent, matte, matte iridescent, opaque, and cut beads to lend contrast and texture to your flower.
